"Inya" or should we say the tore formally known as "The Shaft Store" opened in November 2003. The Store has been at it's current Izett Street location since it first appeared. Due to legal action being threatened after 5 years of trading under that name, we decided to re-name ourselves and held a competition to do so. The name "Inya" was chosen out of hundreds of entries because it was distinctive, easy to spell, no one else was using it (so we wouldn't have the same legal hassles again) and it made us laugh.
INYA is proudly gay owned and operated (although we don't discriminate and have had straight employees in the past).
We try to offer a great range of products at very competitve prices. Anyone who hasn't been into the store before is always amazed at what we can squeeze into a tight space. The staff have a huge wealth of knowledge both in general retail and the Adult industry. So always feel free to ask us anything... Well within reason!
If you are in the area, we have at the front of the shop, all of the local free gay press including Southern Star, Q Magazine, LOTL (Lesbians on the Loose) and MCV. We normally have the Programs for Mid Summa (Melb), Queer, International and Underground Film Festivals, when they are available. We also stock Out in Perth (Monthly gay press from W.A.) - in case you're planning a trip in that direction. We are also one of the largest Melbourne distributors of The Guide Magazine (a great monthly gay travel mag and best of all it's FREE). If you're planning an overseas trip in the near future call in and grab a copy. They disappear really fast! So if you are after a particular issue, let one of our friendly staff know and we will keep one aside for you.
We constantly have new product coming into the store so call in and have a look! We have a fantastic range of back issues of most of the magazines we stock. Many of these are single copies so won't appear on the website. But feel free to email any wants to us.
We proudly support the Victorian Aids Council, Wilderness Society and Greenpeace, amongst others.
We would love to hear your feedback both about this site and the Store as we feel this is the best way for us to continue serving you with what you want.
Live proud, stay strong and let your true colours shine on through!
Thanks for reading this and for checking out our site.
We are part of the Chapel Street Shopping Precinct so if you are planning on visiting us please have a look around the local area as there is a lot to do and see surrounding us. Turn your trip into a day out.
